"The NPORS  N401Appointed Person Training Course is a multi-level program that caters to both beginners with no prior experience and seasoned operators looking to obtain a recognised qualification. The training is delivered by a team of experienced and certified instructors who are well-versed in lifting techniques and Industry safety standards.

What's does the NPORS Appointed Person course include? By the end of the training course you should have strong skills in the following areas:

  • Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and your responsibilities as an Appointed Person

  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of each member of the lifting team. 

  • Demonstrate and explain how to interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation including legislation, regulations, codes of practice that relate to all lifting operations and duties

  • Explain and identify the different requirements to be followed for lifting persons, A basic lift, Standard lift, Complex left and additional requirements for lifting from height.

  • Explain the notification process and the requirements for reporting procedures to authorities, utility owners and other parties if affected by the lifting operation

  • Be able to Identify different types of cranes their capabilities and limitations for lifting

  • Explain the maintenance, inspection, thorough examination and testing requirements for lifting equipment and all lifting accessories.

  •  Explain and demonstrate how to calculate point loadings and outrigger loadings, spreader mat types and sizes.

  • Explain the function and use of RCI's and anti-collision systems and use the information provided

  • Demonstrate and explain the selection of the correct cranes for specified lifts including all accessories ensuring correct duty charts, range diagrams and specification sheets.

  •  List and explain relevant information relating to different types of lifting equipment and all lifting accessories.

  • Explain and demonstrate different slinging techniques calculating sling sizes and the importance of checking the security of various types of loads to a Hook and procedures for ensuring load balance security and integrity.

  • Demonstrate and illustrate different types of communication methods for lifting purposes.

  • Explain the importance of completing a reflective report on a lifting operation

  • Explain the importance of completing a reflective report on a lifting operation. 

  • Identify and demonstrate how to and plan an area with exclusion zones for diverse lifting operations identifying and proximity hazards including OHL and buried services. 

  • Explain and identify the requirements for safe site access and egress for different types of lifting equipment. 

  • Demonstrate how to conduct a safe system of work by producing risk assessments, method statements and lift plans with information supplied. 

  • Prepare and explain lift plan information to all personnel involved in the lifting operation. 

  • Specify and explain positioning of the crane and load, identifying limiting factors and immovable obstructions that must be considered. 

  • Identify and explain how environmental factors external to the lift zone can affect the planning of the lifting operation and the possible outcomes.

How will I be assessed? Throughout the course, operatives will undergo both theoretical assessments and practical evaluations to gauge their progress.

Upon successful completion of the Appointed Person Training Course, participants will receive a nationally recognised card which will be valid for 5 years for traditional NPORS cards or 2 years for CSCS logo NPORS. This can be converted to a blue competent operator card on completion of the relevant NVQ and would then be valid for 5 years.

Do I have to attend the full course if I'm already experienced? 
The training course welcomes individuals with varying levels of experience and it's possible to take an 1 day refresher course on site Provided you have previously held an appointed person qualification. Your trainer will discuss timescales and agree a training programme with you based on your experience.

What is the price of the NPORS Appointed Person Training
The price of the course there is depending upon your experience and training location, one day refresher courses can be carried out from as little as £400 + VAT making it one of the most commercially viable qualification schemes on the market.
